The remarkable story of community Garden De wereld.

Aleppo? Assad? Sem doesn’t care. To him the world revolves around 3 community gardens and his property is the Garden of Eden. He has one great love: PAX, a small little bunny.
Last year he put up a fence because his neighbors are in constant war. Tonight there is this dreadful neighborly barbecue.
When he unwillingly attends the barbecue, he finds out his fence is the reason of their fight. Community garden De Wereld will experience a whirlwind with PAX in an unwanted leading role.

PAX poses the question: “am I responsible for my (unintended) actions?”

BIO Jasper Scholten

ING_Opnames_IMG_3756_JeroenVanZijp

Jasper Scholten (1985) is a film director who is educated as an anthropological documentary maker, but gained most of his credits in commercial work. His style is characterized by a mix of strong, little characteristic movements (ethnographic film making) and fast, effective storytelling (commercials). Jasper’s drive is to make films that matter.

Flip-thinking has been an eminent part in the main characters. Take for example El Savador (2016), a short film about a man who pretends that the Dutch football team is playing the Euro Cup Finals. Bow (2014), a film about his parents, is created to bring comfort to divorced parents. And Welcome (2015), a story about refugees lets us rethink about ourselves. “Every film I make should display my inner struggles to life on the happenings in my world”.

Script-wise Scholten prefers to focus on inner human little tragedies. We see main characters and their own internal fights. They are silent characters who have sadness in their eyes. On the other hand, he feels that “ humor is the most powerful weapon to bring my messages to the viewers”. He considers the largest compliment to be a laughing audience that feels a bit embarrassed after watching the show.

Jasper lives in Utrecht, The Netherlands, with his fiancé. He co-owns a medium sized production company named BLIK (founded in 2010). He manages this company together with producer Frank van den Heuvel. Among their clientele are large companies like ING, Ziggo and Rijkwaterstaat. The two partners manage a team consisting of Lieke van Wijck, Maaike Wolfs and Bas Baakman. The team is often supported by the help of freelancers like Luuk de Kok, Christiaan Cats and Florian Koch.
